In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Keeling Curve, Ralph Keeling of the Scripps CO2 Program illustrates the method scientists use to make carbon dioxide measurements and gives a tour of the original instruments his father, Charles David Keeling, developed to start the famous record known as the Keeling Curve. This demonstration was conducted on Ellen Scripps Memorial Pier at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif.; scientific samples for the Keeling Curve record are taken at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. 0:22 The Mauna Loa record was begun by Charles Keeling in 1958. 0:36 Flask sample demonstration. 0:56 Charles Keeling's original lab. 1:14 How air samples are processed 1:47 CO2 levels were around 315ppm in 1958 2:10 Why do CO2 levels keep rising?
