Here's something different for a change. A guitars only cover. No backing track, no drums, no bass, no vocals, no whatever. Just two live-recorded guitar tracks. It is as boring and dry as it sounds. And that's exactly the reason why I am uploading this! As you might have noticed, I made a full cover of this song with fellow german drummer Johannes Kochs. If you haven't seen it yet, you can check it out here: • Kevin Heiderich & Johannes Kochs | Psycrop... If you like his drumming then subscribe to his channel! So how did this collaboration happen? Well, when I did that one show with The HAARP Machine at the Euroblast Festival we were actually using the same rehearsal room as Johannes does. That's where I met him the first time. (So the room Johannes was recording in, in the link above, was actually the rehearsal room we were using back then. The couch on the right side was my safe space (lol). Yo Onityan was on the other side. Fun fact!) It became apparent that we have the same taste in music when it comes to technical death metal, so a lot of love for Necrophagist, Psycroptic and Ulcerate. So we got along, and later he shot me a message asking for a collaboration. Back then I declined, because I was not interested in covering anymore (and I'm still not interested lol), and asked him if he'd be interested in writing some drum parts for me instead. Because that's what I really want to do, especially in a collab. Writing music, recording and filming it! He agreed but we kinda lost track of it, so nothing came of it. Yeah drummers are a bunch of flakey people. Sorry Johannes, haha (Just kidding, don't worry!) So a few weeks back he got back to me asking for a collaboration again, and this time I thought, well, I'm still not interested, but I should give it a shot. I was in the mood for filming. I've been living here for two months now, and there's no excuse for not being productive anymore. And you'll never know what might happen. For example, I did a european tour with american band "Solace Of Requiem", that didn't really pay much, with music that was difficult to pull off live and some minor personal clashes. All in all still a good and memorable experience with a few hiccups. But that way I got to tour with Ulcerate, Wormed, Gigan, and Departe! And on that tour I met Lille Gruber of Defeated Sanity for the first time. You all know where that went. Why am I uploading this version, a boring guitars only video, where nothing happens? Well, first off, I don't like the final mix that made it into the video of Johannes. We had a lot of mixes, all done by Ramon Smith, who did a great job. And there was this one mix that, while it was not the most defined mix, it had the most energy and was really fun to listen to. Even better than the original. But it didn't make it. I did some finishing touches on that one, and wanted to use it for a different cut of the video. But my editing skills are neither fast, or good enough to do get it done in a timely manner. My camera man is on to it, but in the meantime I was thinking of a guitars only version, just me tracking for the final video. This is one for my subscribers. Just a dry recording, with almost no editing. Going further down the path of "real" guitar playing and showing the rough edges, the not so perfect tone, and the minor mistakes, that still made it into the final version. I was a big fan of the old young guitar and guitar world videos, that featured real playing, the majority of those on shitty practice amplifiers, and most of the time, the guitarists still sounded great...but also real, in both the good and bad ways! With todays videos, and music, you barely have an idea how a real guitar sounds like, or let me rephrase it, how a real tracking session sounds like, with no edits or other enhancement techniques. I'm not opposed to them at all. They are totally fine for recordings, even for promotional videos on youtube. But they disillusion young, hell, even older experienced guitar players and give them the impression that a tone like that is achievable. So that's why I decided to upload this version. It might not get any clicks or even dislikes, it's boring af after all, but I know, there a lot of my subscribers who are really interested in this. But there are still some edits in this video. Even with a noise gate, there was some noise coming through in the mini pauses. So I cut it manually. Made a huge difference in terms of sounding like a professional recording, and that's why I kept them. There's a harmonizer automated on some parts on the right track. I also recorded without a click, just with the drum track, which explains that stupid timing mistake in the outro lol.
