Please join me for the second part of our journey to Bagdogra Airport, followig the Darjeeling Railway for the first 18 minutes before turning off onto a more direct road to Siliguri where the road loses hieght via an unbelievable number of zig zags, once on the level we really start to move and just for fun, see how many cows you can spot sleeping in the fast lane of the motorway. With our time in Darjeeling drawing to a close we loaded our suitcases into the cars provided to speed our group to Bagdogra Airport. The reviews for this trip describe it thus - "the well-maintained road from Bagdogra to Darjeeling ensures a comfortable journey and you can take pit stops along the way to enjoy the scenery, stretch your legs, and savour a delicious meal". The reviewer has in my opinion been a little economical with the truth, probably an estate agent in a previous career. With a camera mounted on the roof of the car we get a good look at both the road ahead, the various animals sleeping in the road and the antics of the Indian drivers. No passengers, drivers, cows or dogs were injured in the making of this video although some passengers might have required a change of underwear on arrival at Bagdogra Airport. In Part 1 our journey started in the back streets of Darjeeling, eventually joining NH110 (the Hill Cart Road) near Ghum to run next to the Darjeeling Railway as far as Kurseong. In Part 2 we leave the Hill Cart Road shortly after Kurseong to join the direct route to Siliguri, where we join the NH327 to Badogra for the Airport. This is not a journey for the faint hearted and the wearing of a seat belt is advised, please pour a hot cup of Darjeeling tea and join me on a memorable journey during which we are treated to a lesson in driving etiquette, Indian style.
