Video Credit: John Faucher, New London Press Star/Multi-Media Channels, LLC (www.waupacanow.com) Members of the New London Fire Department rescued a teenage boy at 6:40 p.m. Friday, March 20. According to rescue workers at the scene, the boy was trying to cross an ice dam near the Pearl Street dam on the Wolf River when the ice broke. A current carried the the boy downstream toward the Shawano Street bridge where an attempt was made to rescue him by dropping a life jacket on a rope. The current was too fast for the boy to hold onto the life jacket without falling into the river. Rescue workers and neighbors came out on boats and pulled the boy to safety.
