In this second video on Siegfried Knemeyer's DR-2 Dreieckrechner ("Triangle Computer"), we take a look at the logarithmic side of the device, including gauge markings for conversions as well as calculating true airspeed. On this particular model of the DR2 (from May 1940), some of these gauge markings were etched in after the device left the factory, presumably to match revisions that were made on the later DR2s. For more history on the evolution of the DR2, see Ronald van Riet's excellent 2009 article entitled "Knemeyer Dreieckrechner." This video demonstrates conversions between kilometers per hour (km/hr), nautical miles (nm), and meters per second (m/s), walks thru a conversion of indicated airspeed (IAS) to true airspeed (TAS), and finally, closes out with a demonstration of how quickly the DR2 can solve the essential problems for completing a basic flight log. 00:00 – 1.
