WikiLeaks documentary focuses on Julian Assange and the organisation. "We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks" is directed by Alex Gibney. "We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks" is directed by oscar-winner Alex Gibney. The film examines the idealism surrounding the organisation and how it grew to become a household name through its release of sensitive government documents. Parts of the documentary show Assange viewing a copy of the Guardian newspaper which has splashed the contents of the military cables over around a dozen pages. He then walks outside to waiting camera crews who trail his journey to another office. Gibney suspects Assange hasn't seen the film but is aware of some of it's content. "I know he's read it because he's released an annoted transcript of the film, it's a badly inaccurate transcript which miss all of Bradley Manning's words. I think it's because they used an audio recording of a screening and Manning's words are printed but he denounces it in rather minute fashion in this annotated transcript," Gibney said. The story of Bradley Manning, the source of the military cables, lies at the heart of the documentary and features some of his online conversations about whether to release them. Assange remains holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London. If he steps outside he will be arrested by police who are on 24 hour watch. He is then likely to be flown to Sweden to face sexual assault charges which he denies. While the US is likely to then extradite him there to answer charges over the publication of the cables.
