(24 Aug 2000) Arabic/Nat XFA It is a sad day, at Cairo airport, for many friends and relatives of victims of the Gulf Air Airbus A-320. The aircraft crashed on Wednesday on a flight from Cairo to Bahrain with 135 passengers, including several children and eight crew members. The plane went down in the Gulf waters off Bahrain. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) "We knew at night, but they said it was the plane arriving to Cairo, so we slept in peace. They (her sister and her family) were on their way to Australia and they transit in Bahrain.' SUPERCAPTION: Voxpop SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) "They (relatives in Abu Dabi) called me and asked me is he (his uncle) on this flight and what is the flight number. He said that no survivors had been found but the search - supervised by Crown Prince Sheik Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa - is continuing. The aircraft crashed about three to four miles (4.8 to 6.4 kilometers) north of the airport. The flight's voice cockpit and data recorders have not yet been found. Meanwhile Egyptian state television said the crash was caused by a fire in one of the aircraft's engines.
