Performed near Boston Chinatown, was the next team right after the Monkey King and Lion Dance featuring an elaborate and epic setup for the zoo and jungle theme routine. The setting inside was almost like an indoor temple. The group of performers includes the Imperial lion dance team who have been known to perform with high poles and jongs who are from Worcester, a city west of the Greater Boston area from Chinatown. Performers are allowed to a certain extent of freestyle and creative lion dancing (with few restrictions) along with focus of good teamwork and coordination and synching with music and drumming. The acrobatic moves require many hours of practice, preparation, training skills and great strength to achieve the amazing jumps, stunts and accurate timing. Even the best, greatest, and most awesome needs to always continue to refine and make improvements through the amount of dedication and effort, as it may look easy but certainly has its challenges, as it involves a tremendous amount of work put towards in the show performance. This particular lion dance has a layout that resembles like an obstacle course for the animal or Chinese Lion (in this case) to go through and reach to get the item. This setup version includes one of the longest arrangement of red benches with an exciting crowd of spectators and people watching the event. It is said that high poles and jongs will be part of a new type of competition for next year involving both lion dance and dragon dance, in which Boston will be the city on this planet Earth hosting the 2018 event. Although many strive to be the winning champion, there is a very strong and active lion dance community, where the competition is treated like an artistic and attractive sport to come together and share their interest, as well as exchange ideas and knowledge. The 2017 event was done a little differently where last year's 2016 Competition was structured with a championship style format where the top four were selected and competed in the finals. This was a collaborating team effort by Boston Chinatown Main Street & Southeast Asian Coalition (SEAC), with a goal in mind of continuing the growth of the culture during these modern times for this traditional and ancient performing art, where lion dance first originated in China many years ago. And eventually spread through other places like Vietnam where lion dance is known as Múa Lân. While in Malaysia, it is called Tarian Singa. The venue location was the Kowloon Chinese Restaurant in the Greater Boston area in USA just outside of Chinatown. The name Kowloon is based on the northern part of Hong Kong across Victoria Harbour towards direction of Mainland China. The restaurant features bright lantern lights and decoration hanging from the ceiling.
