We Found a Hidden Cold War Base in the Everglades While Python Hunting

While python hunting in the Florida Everglades, we ended up deep inside the old Aerojet Rocket Facility a Cold War test site hidden in the swamp. Inside the abandoned compound, we found a massive rocket still buried in the ground where it had been left decades ago. We’ve been to this old Aerojet Rocket Facility before, but it’s always interesting to see how much of the Cold War testing site is still sitting out there in the swamp. The reinforced buildings, concrete structures, and the remains of the large rocket buried on-site show a piece of Florida history most people never get to see. Removing invasive Burmese pythons is our main focus, and this location happens to be one of the areas we work. The combination of wildlife, old infrastructure, and Florida’s past makes it a unique place to operate. Every removal we do here helps protect native species and keeps the Everglades in balance.
