This ideology, known as “siege culture” after James Mason’s extremist writings, rejects public protests in favor of covert actions such as targeting journalists, minorities, and critical infrastructure to spark chaos. Payne exposed how groups like The Base recruit online, organize in small cells akin to terrorist networks such as Al-Qaida, and train for violent events. Despite operating in secrecy, these groups are heavily armed, ideologically extreme, and increasingly dangerous, blurring the lines between militia movements and neo-Nazi extremism.
