Meet gynecologic oncologist Shannon Westin, M.D.

http://bit.ly/2su9eYi Shannon Westin, M.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine. She received her medical degree from The University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Fl. Dr. Westin is a clinical investigator with a focus on developmental therapeutics and the use of biomarkers to predict response and recurrence in gynecologic cancers. Her background in public health, with a focus on clinical investigation and epidemiology, has provided her with a clear understanding of the study design and validation techniques which are essential to the study of these topics. She is principal investigator of several novel treatment trials for endometrial cancer as well as a phase 1 trial of agents relevant to ovarian cancer. As part of the Stand Up to Cancer collaboration, she serves as the MD Anderson principal investigator for a trial of MK-2206, an AKT inhibitor, in recurrent endometrial cancer. This trial incorporates a novel biomarker-driven design, utilizing stratification by PIK3CA mutation status.
