In Badges, Borders, and Blackness, we connect the dots between ICE’s recent surge in Minneapolis and the ongoing experience of state violence that Black people have faced long before federal agents arrived. These federal immigration operations, known as "Operation Metro Surge," have brought thousands of agents into Black and immigrant neighborhoods, especially targeting the Somali community. Many residents are U.S. citizens, yet they are treated as suspects and criminals. For decades, Black communities have lived under heavy policing, surveillance, and criminalization. Now those same tactics, including raids, stop-and-frisks, and racial profiling, are being carried out under the banner of immigration enforcement. What is happening in Minneapolis is not new. It is part of a colonial system that has been waging war agains African and other colonized communities. This episode looks at the scourge of colonial state violence, from stop and frisk to deportation flights. We will expose how colonialism mark targets African and other colonized communities regardless of birthplace or immigration status.
