KWACHEMA KU PARLIAMENT OF MALAWI POMWE EMJ COMPANY IKUKANIKA KUYANKHA MAFUNSO POGULA AMARYLLIS HOTEL EMJ Advisory Public Accountants, a company that recommended to Public Service Pension Trust Fund that the value of Amaryllis Hotel be pegged between K115 billion to K145 billion, is not a registered valuer. The company is appearing today before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament in the ongoing inquiry on purchase of Amaryllis Hotel at K128.7 billion. EMJ Advisory Public Accountants was engaged by the Public Service Pension Trust Fund to do a business analysis of Amaryllis Hotel. It was to check in terms of viability of the business but also do due diligence. When asked by Public Account Committee chairperson Steven Baba Malondera if the company was a registered valuer EMJ Advisory Public Accountants director Emmanuel Chisale told the committee that the company was not a registered valuer. Malondera doubted the capacity of the company to value the business after one of its consultants Simplex Bwanali, who did the financial analysis, indicated that it will take about 18 years to recover the money to be invested but also that the business was viable. "Are you a registered valuer? I am asking this because one of the valuers yesterday told us that at K48.7 billion it will take 36 years to recover the investment and you are saying that for the value in the range between K115 billion to K145 billion it will take about 18 years," said Malondera. Chisale revealed that his company was not a registered valuer but was engaged by the Fund to do a business analysis. The work done was desk review of the Amaryllis Hotel business. He told the committee that the decision to invest in the hotel rested with Public Service Pension Trust Fund adding that his company did not take part in the negotiations that were done. EMJ Advisory Public Accountants director Emmanuel Chisale has told the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament that the company was not about the valuation business for Amaryllis Hotel and it got involved after getting an email. Chisale said the company felt it was capable of doing the valuation after seeing the terms of reference that the Public Service Pension Trust Fund had put forward. Consultant Simplex Bwanali has defended the valuation carried saying the company was engaged to do a business valuation and not a property valuation.
