On OI LIVE this month, January 15, 2026, we are talking about Holding. Officials Institute (OI) Chairman of the Board, Joshua Schroeder, leads the group with videos showing all plays involving holding. Holds on rebounds or a hold on a post up or even holding on a dribbler at the division line. Every play will involve some sort of holding situation. OI LIVE meetings are conducted every month with the intent to provide instruction to basketball officials and assist in helping everyone get better. If you are interested in participating in these meetings, become a member by clicking the link. https://officialsinstitute.org/member... OI believes that watching and discussing videos in a group brings better awareness in how to apply the rules of basketball in real game situations and provides a fun and supportive environment for officials to ask questions and share philosophies by fellow officials. Asking questions while analyzing video is a valuable learning tool and by giving repetitive looks at the same play increases retention of rules and philosophies of rules. All videos shown are actual high school basketball videos. The video of this online meeting includes 11 various video clips and a bonus clips. 0:00 - Intro 0:11 - Meeting Schedule 1:05 - Rebound on a shot with a hold that is not called. How do we see this? 5:56 - Dribbler splits two defenders but then a foul is called on one of them for holding 9:16 - Another rebounding play similar to the first and also not called 15:32 - Post play hold, called by the Lead. Check this one out 42:53 - Center come way out of his area to get a hold and sells it 48:20 - Rebounding hold called by Center 51:31 - Messy play with bodies falling on the floor. Off ball foul called 55:55 - BONUS PLAY 59:42 - Next Meeting - Pass & Crash Watching video clips is a good way to stay connected to the skill of officiating basketball but education and learning can more effectively be attained doing it in a group with some direction from a key speaker. Remembering specific rules and application of those rules is easier when visual aids are used to present in a way that is easy to listen to and understand. The Officials Institute, and their monthly video review meetings, create a fun environment that allows participants to speak up and voice their opinions on plays without negative retribution or rebuttals. Everyone's opinion is worth something and adds to the overall learning experience that everyone should strive for, regardless of years of experience. Breaking down film in slow motion and freeze frames helps to "retrain our brain" so when we see the same plays in real time we are in a better position mentally to get the call right. #holding #offball #rebounding #NFHSbasketballrules #basketballofficial #officialsinstitute For more videos by the Officials Institute subscribe to this channel / officialsinstitute OR click the following video links Rule Review - Out of Bounds • Is it IN or or is it OUT?
