Caduta degli Angeli Ribelli - Fall of the Rebel Angels by G.B Gaulli il Baciccio and by Giovanni Odazzi Giovan Battista Gaulli Il Baciccio , Caduta degli Angeli Ribelli - Fall of the Rebel Angels, Giovan Battista Gaulli Il Baciccio - nicknamed Il Baciccia/o (diminutivo di Giovan Battista in genovese) (Genova, 1639 – Roma, 1709) Caduta degli Angeli Ribelli - Fall of the Rebel Angels, parte dell'affresco della volta: "Trionfo del Nome di Gesù" - "The Triumph of the Name of Jesus" 1674-1679 Chiesa del Gesù Roma A commissionare l’opera fu il cardinale Giovanni Francesco Negrone (genovese come il Gaulli) allora titolare di Santa Maria del Gesù. Ci vollero cinque anni, dal 1674 al 1679 per realizzare il capolavoro: la Gloria del Nome di Gesù. Il Gesù Not far from Piazza Venezia is the 16th century Chiesa del Gesù, the mother church of the Jesuits. It is said to be one of the first churches to introduce the Baroque style into architecture and art and has served as a model for Jesuit churches all over the world. Although the church's interior was designed originally to be plain and unadorned, in the 17th century patrons of the church commissioned many artists to add to the decorations inside the church to indicate their wealth and status. Today the church is visited for its beautiful, illusionistic ceiling fresco by the Baroque artist il Baciccio, a large mirror on the floor allows you to look at the ceiling to see the detail without straining your neck. http://www.art-in-rome.com/search/lab...
