In 1938 Neville Chamberlain returned home to London declaring that he and Adolf Hitler had achieved 'peace in our time'. Chamberlain for his efforts has gone down in history as a clown. The reality is far from this however. Neville Chamberlain was a Christian who hated the idea of war. He wanted peace at all costs. To him, Adolf Hitler's claims on Austria, the Sudetenland, Memel and Danzig weren't that far fetched. He was willing to work with Hitler. He would happily have some of these areas transferred to Hitler, but he just wanted it done peacefully. He wanted no blood to be shed. This in itself is a noble cause. The entire way he was hounded by warmongers such as Winston Churchill but this time, he held his nerve and pushed through his policy till the end. Europe came to the very brink of war in 1938 but thanks mostly to Neville Chamberlain, this was averted and at the time it appeared a generation had been saved from war. History has recorded Chamberlain's role as negative and they are wrong. Let's find out the truth about the Munich Agreement.
