On March 15th this year, The Phil had the honour of welcoming Stephen Colbert to talk to our members and grant his Honorary Patronage of the world's oldest student society. Stephen Colbert is an American comedian, television host, writer, and producer best known for his sharp political satire and quick wit. He gained national prominence as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart before creating and hosting The Colbert Report (2005–2014), a satirical news program where he portrayed a parody of conservative political pundits. Since 2015, Colbert has hosted The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS, bringing his signature humor and insightful political commentary to late-night television. His background in improvisational comedy, honed at The Second City in Chicago, helped shape his unique comedic style. Colbert has won multiple Emmy Awards and Peabody Awards for his work in comedy and television. Beyond television, Colbert has authored six books, including ‘I Am America (And So Can You!)’, and most recently, ‘Does This Taste Funny?’, a cookbook co-authored with his wife Evie McGee Colbert. Colbert’s blend of humor, intellect, and charisma has cemented him as one of the most influential satirists and talk show hosts in American media. It was our pleasure to listen to Mr. Colbert and welcome him to The Phil!
