A lot of the lyrics were written at a point where I had a feeling something was wrong in my first relationship, only to find out my sense was correct a few weeks later. I couldn't deal with the song once I was in the midst of it, and it sat there in my memory for almost three decades. The finished song isn't about a single relationship, but it touches upon each of the ones that have been important to me. It's pretty bitter, and I admit to completing it in a depressed state. Call it therapy if you like. But when all is said and done, it was worth it.
