The #ChileMargin24 science team produced high-resolution maps of canyons along Chile's continental shelf. For Eugenio Veloso, chief of the Marine Geology and Geophysics Program at the Chilean Geological Survey, watching ROV footage of a seafloor region he had studied for decades—and long suspected to be a key hub of connectivity—was immensely gratifying. The 55-day expedition explored methane seeps, chemosynthetic communities, and canyons along the continental shelf, advancing understanding of an essential area in the Ocean and strengthening efforts to manage and protect Chile’s waters.
