2018 Winnebago Paseo Review | Affordable All-Season Van for a Couple

Subscribe to my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/c/ultramobili... ** More about this video ** There's so much to like about the 2018 Winnebago Paseo: It's handsome, has a beefy Ford Ecoboost gasoline powered engine, offers many options like a roof rack, bike rack and moveable ladder and is all wrapped in a pretty affordable package. But the best thing about the Paseo is that it's an all-season RV. That means you can use this van in the winter without worrying about freezing water lines and burst pipes. That's because the Paseo has an internal fresh water tank, internally plumbed water lines and heated gray and black water tanks. It's one of the few four season camper vans on the market and competes with the Coach House Arriva and Winnebago Revel. But for all there is to like about the Paseo I walked away from my tour scratching my head on a few things. The Paseo is 2 and a half feet longer and 3 inches taller on the inside than my smaller Ascent. Yet it's bed is quite a bit smaller (53x72 inches compared to 70x72 in my Ascent). The 3 extra inches of interior height could have made the Paseo an ideal choice for buyers who are taller, giving Winnebago an edge into a new market but that small bed makes it less appealing. Then there's the beefy Ford Ecoboost engine: 310 horsepower V6 gas engine. It's great that the engine is gas - you can fill it up anywhere and you do get good pickup and go but I would have hoped that all that extra power would have meant you could tow more: 2260 lbs (GCWR-GVWR). My little 4 cylinder Sprinter can tow twice that and get much better mpg. On the inside I was disappointed by some clear design missteps on Winnebago's part. For example, the sliding screen door stops before reaching the "A" pillar so they had to put in about a 9 inch extension to fill in the gap between the "A" pillar and where the screen ends. That's just weird and it means they also had to then put in a small sliding screen for that 9 inch section so that you can open it and get to the door handle when the door is shut. Huh? It's such an awkward design and I know people are going to just get tired of it and wind up accidently punching a whole in the little screen trying to get to the door handle. To Winnebago's credit they did try to atone for this design affront by masking over the whole debacle with a passenger-side try table to lifts up and out of the weird 9-inch screen door section. But even that is not executed well and the table top ends up rattling as you drive down the road. Then, there's the strange glass cabinet in the galley behind the sink. Winnebago tries to make it sound quaint - like it's some kind of display cabinet - but really it seems like another attempt to mask over a bad design decision. What's behind that thin cabinet that they're trying to hide? My guess is that it's either wiring for the electrical components above or some unsightly framing for the fixed screen door behind… or maybe both. Whatever the reason, the cabinet doesn't belong and needs to go. The Paseo would have a completely wide open view, front to back on the passenger's side if it weren't for this misplaced cabinet. In the end, I have a hard time recommending the 2018 Winnebago Paseo unless you're a couple (not a family) who really wants an all-season RV. Even then, I would recommend that you take a look at the Coach House Arriva. You're going to get a much better built van with a similar layout and a true dry bath in the rear. Plus it doesn't suffer from the design missteps of the Paseo.
