At the invitation of the saxophone class of the Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg, led by professor Ties Mellema, we were proud to welcome Lutz Koppetsch for an inspiring masterclass. In this video he shares his thoughts on practising, sound and the connection between music and meditation. For him, practising is not only about repetition or endurance — it can become a form of meditation: being present with the sound, letting it flow, and learning to listen without constant judgment. He also speaks about finding distance between the player and the result: something may not work yet, but that does not mean the musician is “not good.” Practising becomes a creative search — experimenting with sound, refining technique, and working toward a larger musical idea. The session explored a diverse repertoire including: • Partita in A minor for solo flute – Allemande & Sarabande by Johann Sebastian Bach • Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano Op. 26 by Erwin Dressel • Klezmer repertoire A thoughtful and inspiring day about sound, focus and honesty in music-making. We were proud to receive him in Tilburg. #saxophone #masterclass #fontys #classicalsaxophone #tilburg
