Columbus police chief discuss Tepe killings investigation

Columbus Division of Police Chief Elaine Bryant and Mayor Andrew Ginther are holding a media briefing Wednesday to discuss the case of a couple found shot dead in their Weinland Park home last month. Michael McKee, 39, was identified as the suspect in the killings of Spencer and Monique Tepe. He is charged with two counts of premeditated aggravated murder. Court documents say that McKee is Monique's ex-husband. The press briefing is scheduled for 11 a.m. You can watch the briefing live on 10TV+. The Tepe couple was found dead inside their home on Dec. 30, 2025. Detectives spent days reviewing neighborhood video surveillance. He was reportedly tracked to a vehicle that arrived just before the shootings and left shortly after. Detectives identified the vehicle and linked it to McKee, according to court records. They later located the vehicle in Rockford, Illinois and found evidence that McKee had ownership of the vehicle. He was taken into custody. McKee appeared in a Winnebago County, Illinois, court and waived his extradition hearing, meaning he will be transported to Ohio to be arraigned on his charges in Franklin County. His public defender indicated he plans to plead not guilty. Documents from the Winnebago County Circuit Court of the 17th Judicial Court state that McKee's extradition "will not be feasible" by Jan. 19 and will happen later than expected.
