In the 1930s, the Lewis Bros. Circus established its winter headquarters outside of Jackson, Michigan. Most of the acts just hired on for the season, but the circus itself owned many of the animals and need a place to spend the off-season. The circus was owned by Paul Lewis. Born Paul Rosenburg, he had been a prize fighter and Vaudeville performer before going into the circus business. Upon entering boxing and show business, he took the name of his first wife. Mr. Lewis's brother, J. Adrian Rosenburg, a prominent Jackson attorney, was legal counsel for the circus and developed the practice of using service clubs such as Kiwanis and Rotary to serve are local sponsors. These home movies were taken by Mr. Rosenburg's wife, Irma. Mr. Lewis is the portly man in the plaid jacket, later seen in a white shirt and tie. Mr. Rosenburg is the short slim man in the light colored suit. Others seen in the film are Mr. Rosenburg's daughters, Winona (Mathews) and Barbara (Stanton). CREDITS: Editing by Jefferson Westwood.
