Never exceed the rating of a scale excessively as it may affect the calibration, or even damage the load-cell. The scales do come pre-calibrated, but here's how to recalibrate them if needed. You will need an accurate calibration weight of 200g, 100g, or 50g. It's better to use a weight that is close to the scale's maximum rating. You can improvise a calibration weight by getting a suitable plastic cup and using another set of known accuracy scales to fill it to a total of the desired test weight with sugar. You can also buy sets of accurate calibration weights online. The calibration must be done on a flat and level surface, and with no strong draughts like fans. With no weight on the platten, turn the unit on and then press both the buttons simultaneously until 200.00 is displayed. Now use the power button to select your chosen calibration weight. 200g, 100g, 50g, 20g,10g, 6g, 5g or 1g. Then press the M/units button to start the calibration process. The scales will get a zero reference and then prompt you to place the shown weight on the scales. Once you've done that there will be a brief pause while it waits for the weight to stabilise and then it should briefly display PASS and then the weight of your calibration weight. Note that the accuracy of the scales can be skewed by putting on the wrong weight or a low quality or damaged calibration weight. This can also be used to cheat people by misweighing stuff. Those who might be affected may wish to carry their own test weight with them to check the accuracy of the scales being used.
