1930s Crosley Console Radio Part 1: First Look & Tube Repairs

In this video, we take a first look at this 1930s Crosley Console Radio. While the 157 is a common 10 tube radio chassis, the upright console model is relatively rare. And this unit is in very good shape for its age! We identify any previous service work that was done and the obvious components that will need to be replaced. Additionally, we repair two original Crosley tubes that suffered damage from age. The first tube we repair was one which came completely out of its base. We show how to identify the leads of a vacuum tube and reconnect the base to the tube leads. The second tube had its grid cap fall off. We reattach that as well. Both tubes also had loose bases which we re-glued. This is a beautiful radio which we will be getting up to tip top shape in this video series.
