Wildwoodians, Principal Masterbuilder Ron Thorn has gifted us with yet another drool-worthy tone machine: the Wildwood 10 High Country Special. The High Country Special is especially interesting because it is an entirely new design with no historical precedent. Ron Thorn has pushed the boundaries of what the Fender Custom Shop can do, and the results are magnificent. He built a brand-new body shape, a vibrato system that he designed himself, new pickup placements, and an innovative switching system that is both inspiring and versatile. Though the design is groundbreaking, this guitar is actually an homage to an awesome piece of Colorado and automotive history. Basically, it's a spin on the California Special guitars that Ron Thorn designed a couple of years ago. You see, back in the sixties, Ford produced about 4,000 limited Mustangs for dealers in California in a variety of exclusive finishes. Since Ron Thorn loves classic cars, he named his initial creation after these beastly V-8-powered monsters. But, because Ron Thorn is such a great friend to Wildwood, he wanted to put a special spin on the Cali Special for us. As luck would have it, limited-edition Mustangs also have a special connection to Colorado. From 1966 to 1968 (before the California Special even existed) Ford produced a limited-edition Mustang for Colorado dealers only called the (you guessed it!) High Country Special. It's one of the rarest classic cars ever, as Ford only ever made 333 of them. But, they're not just rare--they're super cool, too! They boasted a variety of cosmetic appointments inspired by the legendary Caroll Shelby, plus a cool brass badge on the fender. They came in three killer colors: Aspen Gold, Timberline Green, and Columbine Blue, all of which Ron Thorn and the paint team at the Custom Shop have painstakingly recreated for these guitars.
