Russia launched its largest navy drills of the post-Soviet alongside Chinese warships. The Joint detachment of Russian and Chinese ships conducted operations from the Russian Pacific Fleet Naval Base, Vladivostok. Moscow and Beijing have deepened military and economic cooperation in recent years, as both countries seek to counterbalance what they see as a United States-led global order. The Navy drills were split into two exercises, the first conducted in early september 2024 in the Sea of Japan. This was named Exercise Ocean 2024 CPX. The Second Exercise called Beibu/Interaction 2024 was conducted in the Sea of Okhotsk in the last few weeks of September. These are the details of some of the ships that took part: Marshal Shaposhnikov 543 is a modernized Udaloy-class destroyer now reclassified as Frigate in 2020). Commissioned in 1985. One obvious visual modernisation is the replacement of forward gun two with a new 100-mm artillery mount A-190-01 and the complete removal of forward gun one, now replaced with a 3S14 universal launcher with 16 cells for Caliber missiles. Russian destroyer Admiral Panteleyev (548) launched in 1988 retains most of her original systems including her two outdated Soviet AK-100 naval guns. she has a full displacement of 7,900 tons and a length of 163 metres or 535 feet) The Chinese Ship Xining (117) Type 052D Destroyer, Commisioned in June 2017 she has a full displacement 7,500 tons and is 157 metres or 515 feet long. She is one of 13 ships of this class in operation. Her near identical sister ship class the "stretched" Type 052D Destroyer at 161 metres or 528 feet long number 12 ships. A further 5 ships are currently under construction The Grachonok class, Russian designation Project 21980 Grachonok, is a class of anti-saboteur or coast guard boats. With 27 in service and a displacement of 138 tons this 31 metres or 101 feet long boat is packed with sonar and radar systems and can pack a punch with grenade and a missile laucher as well as a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun. The Steregushchiy-class corvette Rezkiy 343 is 104.5 metres long or 343ft with a full displacement of 2,200 tonnes. This is one of several new class of naval ship built for the Russian navy. The first ship was commissioned in 2008 after years of delays, nine of the planned unusually large "Corvettes" are on active service. The Rezkiy was commisioned in 2023 making her very likely the newest ship in the Russian navy. This particular vessel during construction received modifications from lessons learnt since the very first ship of the class was laid down way back in 2001. Gone for instance is the second mast located towards the stern. The ship in the video is conducting anti-submarine warfare training with an unnamed Russian Submarine, very likely a diesel-electric Kilo II-class. The remaining three ships are under construction, however, completion dates are very unclear. The Chinese supply ship Taihu (889). Commissioned in 2013 she is 178.5 Metres long or 586ft and a displacement of 23,400 tonnes . The Wuxi (104) Type 055 Guided-Missile destroyer. This 180 metre or 590 foot long warship with a displacement of 13,800 tons is a very visible example of China's rapid navy expansion. Commissioned in 2022 she was one of four type 055 destroyers commissioned that year! She is one of eight ships commissioned of her class with a further eight planned. The Chinese frigate Linyi 547 a 054A class guided missile Frigate , commissioned in 2012 the 134 metre or 440 feet long warship has a full displacement of 4,053 tonne. Although designed primarily for air defence operations, her onboard weapons arsenal does include Anti-ship and anti-Submarine missiles and rockets. Since the first of this class was commissioned in 2008, the People's Liberation Army Navy now operate 40 of these ships with a further 10 planned ships to be named as 054B class that will be possibly up to 50% larger.
