"Non-small cell had the technology, it worked, it was feasible. Small cell technology has been a little bit more difficult because it has to capture the state, not a genetic change. There are emerging innovative therapies. We have been able to engineer compounds to work for us and I think they hold a lot of promise, but I think we should still continue to focus on early detection, early detection, early detection. About the Speaker: Sonam Puri, MD Clinical Research Medical Director in the Department of Thoracic Oncology Moffitt Cancer Center Dr. Puri earned her medical degree from Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak, Haryana, India. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, followed by a Hematology and Oncology Fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Puri is an Associate Member at Moffitt Cancer Center and serves as the Clinical Research Medical Director in the Department of Thoracic Oncology. She also serves as the Co-Chair of the Thoracic Neuroendocrine Subcommittee at the Southwest Oncology Group. Dr. Puri is actively involved in several national and international professional organizations. She is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Small Cell Lung Cancer Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee, the American Society of Clinical Oncology's (ASCO) Evidence-Based Medicine and Thoracic Guideline Advisory Committee, the Southwest Oncology Group Lung Cancer Disease Working Group, and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer's (IASLC) Membership Committee. Dr. Puri’s clinical expertise lies in the treatment of thoracic malignancies, including non-small cell and small cell lung cancer. Her research interests center on designing and conducting clinical trials to explore immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and novel therapeutic strategies for patients with thoracic cancers.
