Do you think God cares who wins the Super Bowl today? You might think God is above taking sides. Isaiah 58:2 describes Israel as wanting “God on their side.” In this age of competition and political polarization people still seem to think God takes sides for one party or another, or one movement or another. But if we don’t believe that, we might wonder if God cares at all. Surely God is not absent from our human struggles and concerns, either. Perhaps it’s time we learn what it means to get on God’s side, the side of humble concern for others born from genuine, heartfelt righteousness. When we do, we can be confident that God cares and is indeed for us. Service includes Scripture readings from Isaiah 58:1-12 and Matthew 5:13-20 by Pastor David Coggins and Mary Anne Chadbourne; Children's Message by Pastor Jason Alspaugh; Chancel Choir Anthem, "Come By Here," arr. Uzee Brown, directed by Dr. William Henry Caldwell; Organist Dr. R. Alan Kimbrough. Cover art: Latimore, Kelly.
