In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a wedge heel - arguably the most common method for working a heel. To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small wedge – that is why this type of heel is known as a wedge heel. The yarn featured in this video is DROPS Snow. Please note that the video has NO SOUND sound, but you can find detailed written instructions for this technique in our patterns.
