The Mighty Nein might already be BETTER than Vox Machina

Back in 2021, I don’t think anyone expected that an Amazon Prime animated series based on a Dungeons & Dragons game would end up becoming one of the best animated shows in recent memory. Critical Role was already popular, obviously. But The Legend of Vox Machina didn’t just meet expectations, it completely blew past them. It was funny, emotional, and exciting in the just best way, and somehow managed to translate a messy tabletop game into something that actually worked as a tightly written TV show. And now, in 2025, with Vox Machina still ongoing, Critical Role decided to go for round two. A new show. Based on their second, and probably most beloved, campaign. The Mighty Nein. And somehow… after just one season… I think it might already be better than Vox Machina. Not because Vox Machina is bad. It’s still great. But The Mighty Nein has all the same strengths, endearing characters, interesting lore, emotional gut punches, genuinely funny comedy, and all of it feels just a little more polished. A little more confident. A little more intentional. So sit back, relax, and let’s talk about Critical Role’s newest animated show, The Mighty Nein. This show is amazing! Watch it if you haven't.
