In today’s Saint Story for Kids, we learn about Saint Philothei of Athens, a brave nun known as the “Lady Teacher.” Born into a wealthy family in Athens in 1522, she became a widow at a young age and chose to dedicate her life to God. She founded a convent and opened schools for both girls and boys during a time when educating girls was dangerous under Ottoman rule. Saint Philothei courageously: Ransomed enslaved Christians Sheltered women escaping oppression Built hospitals and charitable centres Created opportunities for women to learn skills Her mercy and bold faith angered authorities. She was attacked and later died from her injuries in 1589, becoming a martyr for her compassion and courage. In this episode, children will learn: Who Saint Philothei was Why education is powerful How courage can protect the vulnerable Why serving others may require sacrifice Saint Philothei’s story gently teaches kids that true love defends the weak and stands up for what is right. 🕊️ Feast Day: February 19 🎨 Liturgical Colour: Red (Martyr) Perfect for families, classrooms, and young hearts learning about courage, charity, and justice.
