“The Fabulous Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines” (the complete LP) features one of the most influential jazz pianists of the early to mid-20th Century along with Ralph Carmichael’s “Swingin’ Big Band.” Nat King Cole often stated that Hines was a big influence on his own musical journey. This 1963 Capitol LP included some of Earl’s big hits and more, all with Ralph’s creative touch: “My Monday Date,” “I Ain’t Got Nobody,” “Memories of You,” “Little Girl,” “Cavernism,” “I Want a Little Girl,” “Rosetta,” “Ann,” “As Long as I Live,” “Thou Swell,” “After All I’ve Been to You” and “Deep Forest.” The album was released in the U.S. on the Capitol label as well as in Great Britain on the MFP/EMI label – each with a different album cover. The recording sessions took place April 29 and May 1, 1963, in Hollywood. The photos seen in this video were taken by trombonist Tommy Shepard (provided courtesy of Jordan Taylor). Earl died in 1983 at the age of 79.
