Mamo Chitte | A tribute to Rabindranath Tagore

Written in 1910 by Rabindranath Tagore, Mamo chitte is a philosophical song that brings to life the series of waves that swarm our heads in the guise of thoughts. Every rise in the tide is followed by an ebb, every sorrow by joy, every confinement by liberation, day by night, life by death. We have attempted to portray this in two ways - every Representation is followed by an Abhinaya. The Representation portion captures our interpretation of the lyrics while we embellish the Abhinaya portion, through Karanas. We begin our journey by showcasing the meditator, whose thoughts start building up with such intensity that she ends up becoming the person in her thoughts. Her life comes a full circle as she learns to navigate its many unpredictable movements - but the question here is, is it really that unpredictable? After all, every waxing moon has to wane, and every rising wave, fall. We feel that Tagore captures this sentiment by describing life as the rising and ebbing of the waves. By presenting us with multiple dualities that life has to offer - happiness/sorrow, confinement/liberation or even life/death. #tagore #rabindrasangeet #bharatanatyam . . . . .
