Bharat bandh | Normal life disrupted in some cities as the protest turned violent

Led by the Congress party, a united Opposition called for a Bharat Bandh on Monday over rising fuel prices and falling value of the rupee. The protest turned violent in some states, causing damage to public property. While Congress President Rahul Gandhi questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence, the BJP said this bandh was an attempt by the Opposition to spread rumours about it. Congress party declared the bandh a success but has also appealed to its supporters to maintain peace.
