Filmed from the plateau at Pradines, this short reflection captures a storm sweeping across the French countryside. At 900 meters above sea level, dark clouds gather, the wind rises, and the air grows heavy with rain. The telescope is brought inside, safe from the flashes of lightning streaking over the valley below. By morning, the storm has passed — the mount stands dry, the skies begin to clear, and a quiet sense of renewal settles over the landscape. It’s a moment between the weather and the watcher — a reminder that astronomy is as much about patience and respect as it is about observation. Through brief breaks in the clouds, I managed to capture three hours on LDN 1228. After cleaning the stack in PixInsight, just over two hours of quality data remained — hopefully enough under these superbly dark skies with the Epsilon at f/2.8. The highlight of the week was a visit to the Pradines Observatory, featuring twin 500mm Newtonian telescopes mounted in a beautifully engineered dome high in the southern French mountains at 1300 meters. These are precision instruments — handcrafted by dedicated astronomers from Montpellier. (Links below.) Observatory: Montpellier, France. https://www.societe-astronomique-mont...
