Patricio Aylwin Azúcar (November 26, 1918 – April 19, 2016) was a prominent Chilean politician and the first democratically elected president after the end of the military dictatorship in Chile. Aylwin was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, and studied law at the University of Chile, where he earned a law degree and became a lawyer. Aylwin began his political career as a member of the Christian Democratic Party, and held several political positions before becoming president. He was a member of the Chilean Senate, and worked as a university professor and lawyer.
