(If you wish to stream a smaller or indeed larger version of this film, details and links at the end of this description.) This is a 40 minute documentary film about the history of Fulwood in Preston, Lancashire, based on the book "A Step Back In Time" by Carole Knight. (Carnegie Press 1986, Scotforth Books 2009) It was made in February and March 2013. I luckily chose a gloriously sunny February day to film the walk around the southern part of Fulwood which makes up the Fulwood history trail in Carole's book. As it is a film of a published 'walk' I decided to film 'as I walked'... no tripod shots, the camera walks with me and so there is often movement!! Please accept that as the style of this film. The idea for the film came about when I was planning a 2 day geography/history workshop for primary school children looking at our local area, namely.... Fulwood. Carole's book sprang immediately to mind and it felt like the decision to make this film had already been made for me... I couldn't say no! It was finished in time for the children to be the first to see it in school. The film has been made to be accessible to Preston schoolchildren in small chunks and to adults in one 40 minute sitting. The archive photos show how little many parts of Fulwood have changed over the years. This film has been a pleasure to make. This is a non commercial project and is intended to be seen freely by community and educational audiences. Many thanks to Carole Knight and The Preston Digital Archive at www.flickr.com for allowing me to use archive photos for this project. Also thanks to staff at Fulwood Library and Lancashire Libraries for the use of archive maps. I hope that you, like me, will no longer be able to travel round Fulwood without seeing the history of the place in your mind's eye. If you start to do that then my film has served its purpose. Apologies if then, like me, you can't ever stop seeing the past in modern day Fulwood!! Gary Cunliffe Medium m4v version at http://vimeo.com/62329198 HD movie at http://vimeo.com/62174637
