Upon arriving at my hotel, The Majlis Resort, I decided to treat myself to some calamari for lunch. Unfortunately, this led to a nasty bout of food poisoning that left me bedridden for the rest of the day. To make matters worse, the room I was staying in was plagued by dust on the mosquito net, which triggered my allergies and made it impossible for me to get any rest. The musty, moldy smell of the bed sheets only added to my discomfort. The hotel staff did eventually clean the room the next day, but they waited until the middle of the lunch hour to begin, which was much later than the prompt service I've come to expect at other hotels. At 56,200 KES per night (with an offer of 4 nights for the price of 3), the Majlis Resort didn't exactly live up to its 4-star rating. I ended up cutting trip short and left after night 3. The Majlis Resort is a 4-star hotel located in the heart of the historic town of Lamu, along the Kenyan coast. The resort features 55 well-appointed rooms and suites, all with stunning views of the Indian Ocean or the resort's lush, tropical gardens. Amenities at the Majlis Resort include an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center, and multiple dining options serving a range of local and international cuisine. The resort also offers unique cultural experiences, such as traditional dhow sailing and Swahili cooking classes. With its prime beachfront location, the Majlis Resort is an ideal base for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lamu Old Town, known for its charming alleyways, historic architecture, and rich Swahili culture. The resort's attentive staff and comfortable accommodations aim to provide guests with a relaxing and authentic Lamu experience. While I wasn't able to explore the charming alleyways and historic sites of Lamu as I had hoped, I was able to enjoy an evening sun downer dhow cruise before heading back home.
