Driving deep into Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most remote and untouched desert landscapes in the American Southwest. Once I leave the highway, it’s over fifteen minutes of off-road driving into true silence as I head toward Signal Peak and Skull Rock, surrounded by nothing but open Sonoran Desert. Kofa sits in southwestern Arizona between Quartzsite and Yuma and spans more than 665,000 acres of protected wilderness. Established in 1939 to protect desert bighorn sheep, it remains one of the least visited refuges in the country. There are no services out here. No gas stations, no crowds, no cell signal in many areas. Just vast desert, volcanic mountains, giant saguaros, and the kind of quiet you can actually feel. This drive is about getting away from everything and stepping into raw desert beauty. Endless sky, rugged terrain, and the feeling of being completely off grid. If you love remote landscapes, solitude, and real desert wilderness, this is one of Arizona’s most extraordinary hidden places. Location: Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, Arizona Nearest town: Quartzsite, Arizona Filmed off-road near Signal Peak and Skull Rock True remote desert driving and exploration Come along as we share a glimpse of these majestic animals in their home landscapes and celebrate a story that is still being written. 👉 Join us on Patreon for the full write-up and more behind-the-scenes travel, stories, and car-camping life: / expedition_wilderness If you enjoy peaceful wildlife encounters and the scenic route, please like and subscribe.
