Businessin10 website: https://businessin10.com/ Are mutual funds good investments? To answer this question, I will be comparing them to index funds. Index funds are financial planners best kept secret, when you talk to financial planners they never mention index funds because they don’t make money with index funds. They always push mutual funds, because they make loads of money on mutual funds. I have seen and watched the so called financial gurus protecting themselves and justifying their push for mutual funds. One of these gurus did this fantastic research to prove that mutual funds have better performance than index funds, in this case we are talking about the S&P 500 index fund. Just to give you a bit of a background there are more than 66,000 mutual finds out there. After all his analysis with his team of professionals, he found 1 mutual fund that did slightly better than the S&P 500 index fund, this like finding a needle in a haystack. Which one of us has the time or the know how to do this research. This is why we depend on our financial planners as long as they tell the truth. So today I will cover both of these investment approaches and you guys make up your own minds on which approach to take. Mutual funds are managed by fund managers and have multiple levels of management fees, we will dissect these management fees in a bit. As such mutual funds management fees tend to be expensive. Index funds, on the other hand, are passive, meaning they are not actively managed. Passive Index funds have low management fees. Index funds track the market and always outperform mutual funds in the long run.
