www.shakedownrecords.com.au Cocked back to the hammer, The Pocketful EP loads two of the nation’s biggest shottas in the chamber, letting the bangs ring out from the Dirty Harry. The vinyl will be set for release through all good hip-hop stockists. In the latest instalment of the all-time classic battle of beat versus rhyme, heavyweights Rob Shaker and MC Hau have culminated on The Pocketful EP managing to sync these opposing elemental forces into harmony. What is presented is a two-sided collection of soul’d out tracks hand soaked in brass and blazing beatdowns synonymous with the Shaker signature. MC Hau Latukefu is perhaps one of the longest serving rhymesayers in Australian hip-hop and host of Triple J's hip-hop program. Hau grew up in the scene as one half of Koolism (with Danielsan) from waaay back in 1995 out of Canberra, ACT. The ARIA Award-winning duo have released five albums, five EPs including 2004 ARIA winner of Best Urban Release for Part Three: Random Thoughts, New Old Ground (2006) and The 'Umu (2010). Koolism also featured in the domestic hip-hop documentary Words from the City - illustrating that Australia’s hip-hop culture is nothing without their contribution. Producer Rob Shaker (Shake Down Records), a member of the monster MC crew Syllabolix (SBX), operates from the camp of Western Australia’s realest hip-hop clan featuring the late Hunter, Clandestein (Mortar, Graphic, Tomahawk), Drapht, Downsyde, Mr Grevis, Bitter Belief. His production credits stretches back to 2004 for an array of artists: Kogz, Maundz, Mantra, Purpose and of course SBX and most recently SMOG (Mouf, Kogz, Shaker, Rafle) in 2015. The house that Shaker built (literally) is a handcrafted, sound-tight studio right down to the dynabolts and door frames, waterfall graphs and full range frequency sweep signals. Toil inside the recording studios of Shake Down results in a shining release of platinum standards. When Hau touched down to the left coast, he got together with Shaker and the pair cooked up in the kitchen, one of the year’s most seasoned, flame-grilled vinyls. The 4-track vinyl-only EP (with a B-side of instrumental cuts) hosts the vocals of Natalie Mae (‘One Night’), the sax and flute of Brendan Scott Grey and trumpet from Matt Smith (‘Know Now’). Rob Shaker featuring Hau - Pocketful EP was all produced, mixed, mastered and cut finely by razor at the hands of Rob Shaker at Shake Down Studios. Sentiment behind the EP puts listeners in tune to the personal aspects of Hau’s touring life from the perspective of the artist. Life on the road and being away from his partner is dearly reflected in the delivery of soulful tone and dusty beat work left to linger throughout the project. Hau’s inner sanctum is a touching reminence here. The Pocketful EP shoots a kill shot delivering what’s to come from the house that Shake built!
