What's Up Drogheda presents: Mike Donnelly Family Martial Arts in Drogheda Michael Donnelly began his training in Martial Arts at 10 years old, with Karate. By the age of 14, he was National Karate Champion of Ireland; and at 16, he received his 1st degree Black Belt in Shotokan, in Dublin. This was just the beginning of Mike’s Martial Arts journey. In the following years, he opened his first Karate school in Drogheda, and subsequently began training in Kickboxing. He entered many competitions and in 1990 he became both the National Full Contact Kickboxing and National Karate Champion. After these achievements, Mike travelled to Chinatown, Manchester, to start his training with Grandmaster Chinawat Sirospan. This was in preparation to become a national representative for Ireland for the International Amateur Muay Thai Federation. During his training with Grandmaster Sirospan, Mike also trained and fought all over Europe; and eventually travelled to Thailand for an extended period to learn more at the many fighting camps across that country. He continued to teach Karate during this time and was eventually appointed Chief Instructor for the Red Dragon Karate Association. Awards International official USA hall of Fame.
