Today President Herman Mashaba addressed over 500 police reservists at the Mayfair Baptist Church in Johannesburg on ActionSA’s plan to provide them permanent jobs. There are roughly 4,000 trained police reservists in South Africa who play an essential role, often working full working weeks, but instead of being provided permanent jobs in the South African Police Service (SAPS), they are overlooked and kept on part-time salaries. Meanwhile, schemes such as Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s Crime Wardens overlook the essential skills police reservists have. Instead, they hire poorly trained wardens who lack the essential training, such as how to handle guns, required to protect our communities. Under ActionSA, police reservists will be prioritised for permanent employment as they already have the required training!
