However, Verdi was said to be the most dissatisfied with the Cairo-première, for no general public was invited. He therefore considered the Italian (and European) première, held at La Scala, Milan in 1872 to be its real première – a première in which Verdi was personally and heavily involved. 135 years later, Daniel Barenboim, one of the most prolific musicians in the world, gave a solo recital at La Scala in May 2007 and presented a creative transcription of "Danza sacra e duetto" from Aida. In this very personal tribute to a nation he has frequently toured as a conductor, Daniel Barenboim skillfully infuses his passion, distinctive style, and character in his playing as a piano soloist. It is also the first live instrumental recital recording at this eponymous opera venue in Italy.
