This is a DIY guide to turn your dumb water heater(s) into a Smart wifi controlled system. Use a wifi plug to take complete control over when your water heater is used. Turn off power to the tank(s) when you are at work, school or sleeping. Automatically turn power back on in the morning or when any member of your family arrives home. You can also use voice control to turn on/off as needed. Most parts are available from any local home center. The only part you may need to order online is the Contactor(s). Just search for "120 volt coil 40 amp contatcor". The whole project can be done for under $100. Installation should only take an hour or two if you are familiar with wiring and hardware.
