This is usually done around 9 months of age where the bones are easily moldable and they are soft. Fronto orbital advancement is done either for metopic synostosis or unilateral craniosynostosis to reshape the forehead. That is why it is called fronto orbital advancement & remodeling. Here a cut is made from one ear to another in a zig zag manner so that the scar is not visible. Then, skin is peeled off and front bone is taken off along with the help of a neurosurgeon. Once this front bone is taken off, there is access to the whole area near the front and then a small strip of the skull right above the eye sockets is taken which is called as supraorbital bandeau. That strip is taken off, reshaped and fixed back. On top of that, the frontal bone is also reshaped and fixed back again using resorbable plates and screws. This results in a flat & smooth shaped forehead.
