The Chart Busters series was launched at the beginning of 1986 and, while the other remaining cover version albums in production had all switched to cassette only, this was issued on both LP and cassette. The first three volumes were titled Chart Busters and clearly credited to The Here & Now Band. This group identity is likely to be an invention, with a variety of session singers and studio musicians providing performances for the tracks. Volumes 1 to 3 used the same sleeve design, but with each in a different colourway. This volume saw the series relaunched after a break of almost a year. Chart Busters became Chartbusters as album title, although it remains Chart Busters on the LP label. A familiar feature of budget cover version album sleeves made a return in the form of a female model, in this instance popular ‘Page 3 girl’ Maria Whittaker. There were no artist credits shown on the front of the sleeve, only the back and on the LP label. The number of tracks had been increased to fourteen (from twelve), which was displayed alongside a prominent price point of £1.99, emphasising the value for money of the whole package (and the budget nature of the release!). Unfortunately, the series survived for only one more volume. The series ended with volume 5, which was also the end for the budget cover version album series format in for the UK.
