Generational conflict has been a constant throughout history. Older people tend to view younger people with suspicion (“thank goodness I wasn't like that when I was their age”) and the latter tend to perceive their elders as rigid, controlling, closed to change, etc. Perhaps this is part of human nature. The last few decades have seen changes that may have accentuated the conflict: the welfare society, the emergence of the Internet, the models of cinema, series and advertising.... These tensions can be seen not only in homes but also in environments as diverse as the workplace or ecclesiastical institutions. Understanding the other is a first step to engage in a constructive dialogue that facilitates coexistence.
