Warm rain is headed into California over the next 36 hours, bringing a noticeable change in this active weather pattern. Rising snow levels mean rain falling on existing snow, which will increase avalanche danger, especially in the Lake Tahoe area, where avalanche watches are in effect. Rainfall will be widespread, and with saturated ground, flood watches and flood advisories are posted for parts of northwestern California, where runoff into rivers, creeks, and streams could become an issue. In this update, we break down where the warm rain moves in first, how high snow levels will rise, and which areas face the greatest risk for avalanches and localized flooding. We’ll also walk through the latest radar, satellite imagery, and forecast models as this system continues to develop. Stay weather-aware and check back for updates as conditions evolve over the next couple of days.
